Chapter 7: Your Own Components, Modules, and Plug-Ins

Let's say you want to solve a problem with Joomla!, but there are no ready-made components for it yet. For instance, you are a car dealer and you need a listing of your used vehicles on your website that you can administer with the Joomla! administration or you need a list of your branches. Simply extend Joomla!'s functionality with new components, modules, and plug-ins. What looks quite difficult at first can actually be accomplished with beginner-level knowledge of PHP.
I am sure you can figure out what you have to do after your experience with building templates. The emphasis this time, however, is not on layout but on programming. But before we really get going, let's work on a simple "Hello World" component.
